DailyBread Copyright & Licensing
1. Overview
DailyBread Development owns its original software, branding, documentation, interface designs, and other original DailyBread intellectual property.
Bible translations and Scripture content may belong to separate copyright holders.
Bible translations must therefore be treated independently.
2. Bible Providers
DailyBread may use multiple Bible providers, including:
- YouVersion;
- API.Bible; and
- Other providers that may be added later.
Each translation may have different licensing requirements.
3. Translation Metadata
Where supported, DailyBread maintains or obtains licensing information associated with Bible content, including:
- Translation name;
- Abbreviation;
- Provider;
- Copyright holder;
- Copyright notice;
- License information;
- License URL;
- Publisher information; and
- Required attribution.
4. Attribution
Where a translation requires attribution, DailyBread intends to display the required attribution alongside or in connection with the relevant Scripture content.
API.Bible's current requirements state that copyrighted Scripture content must receive appropriate attribution and that the relevant copyright information must be available through a copyright page or equivalent location.
5. Scripture Integrity
DailyBread does not claim ownership of third-party Scripture translations.
Scripture text obtained under a third-party license must not be intentionally altered in a way prohibited by the applicable license.
If a translation's license requires a particular format, attribution, or limitation, DailyBread may enforce those requirements.
6. Discord Distribution
DailyBread may provide functionality allowing supported Scripture content to be sent to Discord.
The ability to send Scripture through Discord does not itself grant unrestricted redistribution rights.
Each translation must be evaluated according to its applicable license.
API.Bible's current terms contain specific restrictions concerning transmission and redistribution of certain content.
7. Caching
Bible text may be temporarily cached to improve performance and reduce unnecessary API requests.
Caching does not mean DailyBread owns the cached Scripture content.
Where a provider imposes a refresh requirement, DailyBread intends to follow it.
API.Bible currently requires cached content to be refreshed at least every 30 days.
8. User-Generated Content
Users may create original devotional, formatting, and embed content.
Users remain responsible for third-party material they include.
DailyBread does not transfer ownership of third-party Bible content to users.
9. Copyright Complaints
Copyright concerns may be submitted to:
Please include:
- Identification of the copyrighted work;
- Identification of the allegedly infringing material;
- Information sufficient to locate the material;
- Your contact information;
- A statement that you believe the use is unauthorized; and
- Any other information reasonably necessary to investigate the complaint.
10. Provider Changes
DailyBread may remove, restrict, or replace a Bible translation if:
- Its license changes;
- The provider removes access;
- The rights holder requests removal;
- The provider's terms change;
- The translation becomes unavailable; or
- Continued use would no longer be permitted.
